Repeat after me: I will actually take the time to clean my beauty and skincare tools this year.
If you’re anything like us, you’re a little *hyper* obsessive about cleaning your beauty and skincare tools, but if you have no idea where to start when it comes to this process that’s okay too - we’re here to help! In this article, we’re going to lay out all the necessary steps when it comes to keeping your skincare tools clean and give you ideas on how to clean your makeup and beauty tools.
We love them, but we hate them when they get dirty because we think they’re hard to clean. Well, get ready to reframe your thoughts around cleaning your brushes, it’s easier than you might think!
If you’re trying to clean a dry exfoliating brush, fill up a bowl with half an inch of water and add a few drops of tea tree oil or any of your favorite essential oils. Add a tiny amount of castile soap to the bowl and move the bristles of your dry brush around for about a minute. After this process, empty the bowl and refill it with plain water. Move the brush around in the plain water to remove any excess soap. Set brush on a towel and let dry.
Another way to clean any makeup brushes is to simply wet the bristles of any brush, being careful to not get the handle wet as this will weaken the adhesive allowing the brush to secure to the handle itself. Place a drop or two of castile soap (or any other skin-safe soap) onto the bristles and work it through until soapy. Simply rinse off the bristles and let dry.
Jade rollers and other similar tools are fairly easy to clean and don’t require much effort. To keep your jade or quartz roller clean, simply wipe off with some warm soapy water and a towel after each use. If you want to take an extra step, wipe off your roller once a week with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to remove any bacteria that may have accumulated over the week.
If you’re sitting there thinking “how do I clean a beauty blender” don’t worry, we’re here to help. Cleaning a beauty blender can seem intimidating at first, but they’re actually quite simple to clean. Simply wet your blender and apply a small amount of castile or other skin-safe soap to it. Work the soap into the blender, assuring to remove any trace amounts of makeup or skincare product. After this step, keep the blender under warm running water and squeeze until the water runs clear and there’s no more soap left. After cleaning, set aside on a clean towel and let dry.
Other Beauty & Skincare Tools
If you haven’t gathered this already, we’re a little obsessed with keeping all of our tools clean, and this includes some that we haven’t mentioned yet!
- Eyelash Curler: Simply wet a cotton ball or paper towel with rubbing alcohol and wipe down all of the surfaces that come in close contact with your eyes. After, rinse the curler off with warm water and let it dry overnight.
- Shower Poufs/Loofahs: You often don’t think about where all that dirt goes when you take a shower, but it all ends up in your shower pouf or loofah! To keep these clean, soak them in a 1:1 mixture of water and white vinegar for about five minutes. After, simply rinse off with warm water and let dry,
- Tweezers: There are two routes you can take when it comes to cleaning tweezers or other all-metal skincare tools. You can either dip the whole thing in rubbing alcohol and let it soak, or you could take an old toothbrush and scrub them down with good old soap and water.
We certainly hope that these tips and tricks help when it comes to how to clean makeup and beauty tools! Happy cleaning!
