There’s a new name to the game when it comes to skincare… body care. Body care is the newest frontier in skincare and we are totally on board this trend. We are very aligned with the belief that the skin on your face is important, but so is the rest of your skin! It’s all apart of who we are, so we might as well take care of all of it. In this article, we’re going to tell you what body care actually means, why it’s important, and how to create a body care routine that is unique to you! So get ready to learn all about how to take care of all of the skin on your body!
What is Body Care?
Body care is one of the newest trends when it comes to skincare, and there’s a reason for it. As we are still spending a lot of time at home due to the pandemic, many people are putting more of a priority on all aspects of their health, including the health of their skin. According to Liz Flora of Glossy, “body serum sales grew 32% in the first quarter of 2020, and body oil grew by 10%. And as the pandemic took hold in the second quarter, body exfoliator sales increased 15%.” It definitely seems as though people are starting to level up their entire skincare routine, and we are absolutely here for this trend.
Although the importance of body care is just now starting to come to the mainstream, it actually isn’t that new of a trend. According to Goop’s beauty director Jean Godfrey-June, “Face oils and body oils really were the start of the clean beauty movement.” Godfrey-June goes on to say that she noticed body care, specifically body oil, “taking off as a category five years ago.” As an indie beauty brand that holds sustainability at its core, we love seeing products like these really start to take hold in the clean beauty industry.
Why Does Body Care Matter?
To put it simply, body care matters because all of our skin matters, not just the skin on our face. Frankly, at this point, skincare is self-care and we are all about it. According to David Tyrell, who is the associate director of global skin care at Mintel, “Self-care is the new mantra since Covid-19; more people look for multi-functional health and wellness benefits for the body and mind.” Tyrell goes on to say that, “The younger consumers [36% of the U.S. are Gen Z, ages 18-25] are spending more time on their personal care routines, which includes taking long baths and adding steps to [their] skin-care routines.”
At the end of the day, taking care of our skin just feels good, and if you live in a dry climate as we do, then body care is something that is included in our daily skincare routine. As we head into the warmer spring and summer months, our body care routine might change slightly but its importance will definitely never diminish.
How to Build Your Own Body Care Routine
Building your own body care routine is pretty similar to creating your own skincare routine, instead, it’s just for the skin on the rest of your body! The main thing you should think of when forming a new body care routine is how it fits your lifestyle. If you live in a dry climate, your routine would look different than for someone who lives in a more moist climate. You also want to think about your age and your skin’s changing needs as you grow older. We wrote an entire blog about things to think about when changing your skincare routine, which you can find here!
We hope you feel empowered to go out into the world and create a body care routine that works for you and feels good!
